IEEE Cloud Computing Newsletter for December 2016

دسته بندی: خبرها

December 2016

Welcome

Welcome to my last newsletter as chair of IEEE Cloud Computing. In the last two years we have almost doubled the size of our community. This tells me that interest in Cloud Computing is stronger than ever. We hope to grow in the next years by participating in more conferences, and offering more content to our members, like exclusive access to Cloud Computing articles, education materials, podcasts, blogs, webinars, and discussion forums.

We have relaunched our Facebook page and will be featuring special content from and aobut IEEE Cloud Magazine. Please "Like" our page to stay up to date.

I am happy to introduce you to our new incoming chair, Dr. Chunming Rong. I have had the pleasure of working with Chunming since 2011. Chunming is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Stavanger and is also Vice President of Cloud Security Alliance in Norway. We are honored to have Dr. Rong as our incoming chair and I am confident that Chunming will grow our community, especially in the area of conferences. Please welcome Dr. Chunming Rong!

Call for a lead volunteer: We are looking for someone to take over managing our IEEE Collabortec group on Cloud Computing. We already have about 1500 members! Are you interested in working with this social networking platform? There are a lot of possiblities so if interested email cloudcomputing@ieee.org with the Subject: Collabortec Volunteer.

Finally, I will still be working with the community producing podcasts and working with social media. I thank you all for the opportunity to lead this vibrant community.

Chris Miyachi

Chair, IEEE Cloud Computing Community

Cloud and DevOps World, London, June 2017

Cloud and DevOps World will return to London in June 2017 as part of TechXLR8, London Tech Week’s Festival of Technology.

TechXLR8 will give you access to all the industries cloud impacts, with our vast floor plan and wide range of co-located events, while the Cloud and DevOps show will focus on the cloud technology innovations that can still disrupt businesses, drive value and streamline IT processes.

We will bring together the industry’s leading technologists and innovators to discuss cloud evolution, DevOps, containers, serverless architecture, regulation, cloud management microservices and much more.

International Conference on Consumer Electronics (ICCE) 2017

The next International Conference on Consumer Electronics will be held 8th to 11th January 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The IEEE Cloud Computing community will host a track at this conference with both academic and industry sessions. In this track, the researchers and practitioners will present their cutting-edge research that applies to consumer electronics. It will be a fantastic opportunity to get exposed to new ideas and share yours.

Using Cloud and IOT to Grow the Perfect Garden

Cloud computing has brought rise to the commodity, ‘white box server,’ which is no frills, low cost and uses commodity hardware. The higher volume and lower margins has pushed many server vendors to ship a quality of system that they would not have shipped in the past. Validation budgets have been slashed and as a result data centers are seeing increases in memory failures. Case in point is a recent study about the Facebook fleet of servers . This study revealed that if a Facebook DIMM receives 100 soft errors (single bit correctable) in a weeks time it is replaced. A quick calculation of the error rates and the number of servers shows that DIMMs are being replaced every hour at Facebook! Clearly memory errors are not scaling well. If the memory fails it can cause corruption resulting in data loss or a server crash.

Moving To The Cloud? Ask The Tough Questions

Is your business considering a move to the cloud? You’re in good company — as noted by Enterprise Innovation, the public cloud software-as-a-service (SaaS) market is headed for 22 percent growth this year; while infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) is poised for a 43 percent bump. Though before diving headfirst, it’s worth taking a moment to ask the tough questions, determine your value proposition, and get the most from your cloud investment. Here are six critical queries worth making prior to any cloud purchase.

Call for Papers Reminder (extended): International MultiConference of Engineers and Computer Scientists (IMECS 2017)

Draft Manuscript submission deadline (extended): 22 December, 2016
Camera-Ready papers & registration deadline : 10 January, 2017
IMECS 2017: Hong Kong, 15-17 March, 2017

The 25th International MultiConference of Engineers and Computer Scientists
(IMECS 2017) is organized by the International Association of Engineers (IAENG),
a non-profit international association for the engineers and the computer scientists.
The conference has the focus on the frontier topics in the theoretical and
applied engineering and computer science subjects. The IMECS conferences serve as
good platforms for our members and the entire engineering community to meet
with each other and to exchange ideas. Our IMECS committees have been formed
with over three hundred conference committees members who are mainly
research center heads, faculty deans, department heads, professors,
and research scientists from over 30 countries. The last IAENG conference
has attracted more than eight hundred participants from over 50 countries.

All submitted papers will be under peer review and accepted papers
will be published in the conference proceeding (ISBN: 978-988-14047-3-2).
Revised and expanded version of the selected papers may be included as
book chapters in the standalone edited books under the framework of cooperation
between IAENG and publishers like Springer. The abstracts will be indexed
and available at major academic databases. The accepted papers will also
be considered for publication in the special issues of
the journal Engineering Letters, in IAENG journals and in edited books.
For reference, the recent IAENG post conference edited books include titles
like for example: Trends in Intelligent Systems and Computer Engineering,
Advances in Communication Systems and Electrical Engineering,
Advances in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, and
IAENG Transactions on Engineering Technologies by Springer etc.

The IMECS 2017 is composed of the following 14 conferences
(all will be held at the same location and date):
